About the role

We’re all about helping our members make the most of their money. And while they go after their goals, you can too. As a Privacy Specialist, you will play an important role in supporting Australian Retirement Trust to meet its privacy obligations under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), with a particular focus on individual rights. Working closely with Privacy Analysts and broader Data and AI teams, you will help embed strong, practical privacy practices across ART.

Key responsibilities include:

• Supporting the review and processing of privacy access and correction requests in line with Australian Privacy Principles (APPs 12 and 13)
• Assisting the Privacy Analysts to manage individual rights requests accurately, efficiently and within legislated timeframes
• Contributing to privacy impact assessments where access requests intersect with new systems, data uses or initiatives
• Assisting with the development and delivery of privacy training and awareness initiatives, particularly for member‑facing teams
• Providing operational privacy advice across the business to support compliant handling of personal information
• Collaborating closely with Data and AI Privacy Specialists and Analysts to ensure alignment across privacy operations and initiatives
• Promoting a culture of trust, transparency and respect for personal information across ART
• Supporting the Manager – Privacy with additional privacy and data protection activities as required

About you

It goes without saying you'll be a great communicator with top notch interpersonal skills. We'll also expect you to pick up problems and come up with quick, creative ways to solve them. It's quite likely you tick some of the following boxes too:  

• Experience supporting privacy, data protection, regulatory compliance or risk management activities
• A sound understanding of the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), particularly Australian Privacy Principles 12 and 13, or the ability to rapidly develop this knowledge
• Experience or exposure to managing access requests, data subject rights or similar regulatory processes
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with a range of internal stakeholders
• High attention to detail and a strong commitment to handling personal information with discretion and care
• Excellent organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities
• Experience working in complex or regulated environments, ideally within financial services, superannuation or member‑owned organisations
• Tertiary qualifications or ongoing study in law, risk, data governance, information security or a related discipline (desirable)
