Senior Legal Counsel - Investments Legal

About the role

As a Senior Legal Counsel – Investments Legal, you'll be a trusted advisor and business partner in relation to investment matters, providing specialist, solutions-focused legal advice and services. You will be part of the legal team with a primary focus on advising the Public and Capital Markets teams in the Investments division, with a focus on Equity Capital Markets transactions. 

 

Day to day, you'll:

  • Provide specialist legal advice on Equity Capital Markets transactions for the Public Markets team.
  • Provide advice and expertise on other complex investment related documentation and investment structures arising from the Public and Capital Markets teams, such as Investment Management Agreements, ISDAs, securities lending, exposure management and other trading documentation.
  • Provide advice and expertise on documentation engaging custodians and administrators and other service providers.
  • Collaborate and develop strong relationships with key business stakeholders to ensure advice is provided having regard to the strategic goals of Australian Retirement Trust. 

This role is available as a fixed-term opportunity until 30 June 2025.

 

About you

It goes without saying you'll be a great communicator with top notch interpersonal skills. We'll also expect you to pick up problems and come up with quick, creative ways to solve them. It's quite likely you tick some of the following boxes too:  

  • Tertiary qualification in Law and a current unrestricted practising certificate as a Legal Practitioner in Australia.

  • Extensive legal experience in a law firm and/or investment bank specialising in public markets and/or equity capital markets transactions.

  • Ability to lead negotiations on a range of matters.

  • Proven ability to provide professional, concise advice and solutions to technical, legislative, and strategic issues.

  • Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build strategic working relationships, influence, negotiate with and persuade senior stakeholders.

  • Experience in equity capital markets transactions involving superannuation funds is desirable.
