As an Insurance Specialist – Trustee Review, you will be responsible for independently reviewing declined claims and other decisions considered adverse to members on behalf of the Trustee. You will also be responsible for performing some of the key insurer and claims oversight functions under ART’s Insurance Management Framework. The role is responsible for ensuring compliance with statutory requirements and that the service provided to members is in-line with ART’s internal requirements and cultural expectations. Day to day, you'll: - Demonstration of critical thinking and application of an objective, outcome-focused approach to claims assessment while managing risk and being sensitive to customer needs and expectations.
- Conduct reviews of insurance claims on behalf of the Australian Retirement Trust Trustee to ensure quality decision making in-line with statutory requirements, risk management frameworks and other internal benchmarks.
- Effective and timely review of insurer recommendations and challenging when appropriate. Preparing recommendations and complex submissions for the Trustee or their delegate.
- Review data and system integrity to ensure transfer of accurate data to and from interested parties
- Provide information to management of review outcomes including recommendations for improvements, process changes and training.
- Engaging customers and third parties through their preferred channels for all aspects of the claim decision, including additional information, communication of outcome and options where appropriate.
- Maintain knowledge of emerging industry trends and how these may impact on operational risk issues.
- Apply industry, Fund/Plan and Trust Deed knowledge and interpreting Insurance Policy documents and providing advice to the Trustee and other members of the Business Unit.
- Provide support and coaching to ART’s staff on complex and contested claims, including objections to Trustee decisions and claims related complaints including those escalated to AFCA.
- Deliver excellent service to ART’s customers and third parties in relation to declined and disputed claims on behalf of the Trustee.

- Demonstrated experience in gathering, analysing and interpreting information and drawing sound conclusions.
- Highly developed analytical and problem solving skills and dispute resolution techniques.
- Ability to negotiate and liaise at all levels in a sensitive and appropriate manner, representing the members and the clients’ interests with integrity.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills – competent at producing Trustee Board recommendations and reports.
- A high level of technical competence in Insurance in Superannuation.
- Understanding of how to identify, assess and escalate risks according to the Risk Management framework.
- Knowledge of the objectives of risk management and compliance demonstrated by prompt identification and escalation of issues relating to job function.
