About the role As a Senior Workplace Health and Safety Specialist (Compliance) at Australian Retirement Trust, you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping and maintaining a culture of WHS compliance and operational excellence. You’ll lead the design and implementation of WHS policies and systems, ensuring our organisation not only meets but exceeds legislative requirements. This role is perfect for a proactive, detail-oriented professional who thrives on driving continuous improvement and collaborating with stakeholders at all levels. Join us and make a real impact in a dynamic, values-driven environment. Key aspects of the role include: - Lead the design, implementation and maintenance of ART’s Safety Management System.
- Oversee WHS audits, assurance activities and regulatory compliance across the organisation.
- Maintain dynamic WHS risk registers aligned with enterprise risk frameworks.
- Manage regulatory notifications and reporting.
- Drive strategic WHS planning, including critical incident response and business continuity.
- Identify, assess and control WHS risks using data-driven and technology-enabled approaches.
- Conduct post-incident reviews and draft Board and Executive-level WHS submissions.
- Lead consultation with key stakeholders, including the Workplace Health and Safety Committee and People Leaders.
- Design and deliver WHS training for the business and People Business Partners.
This is a permanent opportunity based in Brisbane. About you It goes without saying you'll be a great communicator with top notch interpersonal skills. We'll also expect you to pick up problems and come up with quick, creative ways to solve them. It's quite likely you tick some of the following boxes too: - Relevant tertiary qualifications in Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) or a related field.
- Strong knowledge and practical experience in WHS disciplines, including incident investigation, risk management and training.
- In-depth understanding of WHS legislation and regulatory requirements across all Australian states and territories.
- Demonstrated ability to design, implement and maintain safety policies and management systems.
- Proven experience conducting WHS audits, assurance activities and managing compliance processes.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels.
- Strong planning, organisational, and time management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities.
- Desirable: Qualifications in Rehabilitation and Return to Work Coordination, First Aid or Mental Health First Aid.
