About the role

As a Financial Crimes Specialist – Strategy & Policy at Australian Retirement Trust, you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping and embedding our approach to financial crime compliance and risk management. This position is perfect for someone who is passionate about protecting organisational integrity, influencing enterprise-wide strategy, and staying ahead of emerging risks and regulatory changes. You’ll work closely with a variety of stakeholders, provide expert advice, and drive continuous improvement in our policies and controls. Day to day, you'll:

  • Develop and enhance policies, procedures, and tools supporting fraud risk management and AML/CTF compliance.
  • Partner with business units to assess and manage financial crime risks related to vendors, members, new products, and technologies.
  • Monitor and respond to legislative changes affecting financial crime obligations.
  • Support the implementation of group-wide procedures and systems for AML/CTF, sanctions, and anti-bribery and corruption.
  • Provide risk management and analytical support to strategic initiatives and projects.
  • Create and maintain training materials and awareness campaigns on financial crime risk management.
  • Collaborate with the Risk & Compliance Division and other stakeholders to embed best practice and regulatory requirements.
  • Advise and influence business units to ensure effective controls and compliance with relevant legislation and frameworks.
  • Represent Australian Retirement Trust at industry forums and maintain up-to-date industry knowledge.
  • Act as a trusted advisor, promoting improved risk management and supporting the development of business unit risk profiles.

We have one permanent opportunity and one fixed term contract opportunity until end of November 2026.

 

About you

It goes without saying you'll be a great communicator with top notch interpersonal skills. We'll also expect you to pick up problems and come up with quick, creative ways to solve them. It's quite likely you tick some of the following boxes too:  

  • Experience in a policy development, regulatory or advisory role, preferably in financial crimes or a related discipline.
  • Strong knowledge of Australian AML/CTF legislation, sanctions, and anti-bribery laws.
  • Understanding of regulatory and enforcement bodies’ policies and expectations.
  • Proven ability to implement or maintain AML/CTF program controls, fraud controls, and anti-bribery and anti-corruption measures.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to influence and challenge constructively.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear reports and presentations.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to adapt to change and navigate a dynamic regulatory environment.
  • Commitment to continuous learning and staying current with industry trends and best practice.
  • Tertiary qualifications in Law, Finance, Business, or a related field (desirable), along with relevant certifications in financial crime, risk, or compliance.
