Financial Controller

About the role

Finance and Tax at Australian Retirement Trust (ART) oversees core financial accounting, tax, and operations, ensuring financial integrity. As a Financial Controller you will manage all financial and operational functions, including statutory and climate reporting. Reporting to the General Manager - Finance & Tax, you will lead a high-performing team to deliver accurate financial information and insights, driving commercial outcomes and managing financial resilience. You will also focus on continuous improvement, policy formulation, strategic change, and developing new accounting and reporting processes.

 

Key aspects of the role include:

 

Operational Excellence and Compliance:

  • Oversee ART’s core financial accounting and operations, ensuring accurate management of Corporate and fund financials, payroll, tax accounting, and statutory/regulatory reporting (ESG, climate reporting and APRA).

 Financial Reporting and Statements:

  • Project manage and oversee the efficient delivery of financial reports and statements, providing essential information for management and board decision-making.

Simplified Accounting Model:

  • Build an efficient accounting model for managing the fund, reserves, and corporate group, monitoring key financial metrics (fees and costs).

Treasury:

  • Monitor reserve investment strategy, dividends, FX hedging, cash performance and banking.

Monthly Financial Results:

  • Ensure timely and complete delivery of monthly financial results and contribute to monthly and quarterly management reporting, including analysis and commentary.

Financial Control:

  • Manage financial control over the money in and money out processes for ART, including member operations and corporate processes.

External Relationships:

  • Manage relationships with external auditors, actuaries, and other contacts as appropriate.

About you

It goes without saying you'll be a great communicator with top notch interpersonal skills. We'll also expect you to pick up problems and come up with quick, creative ways to solve them. It's quite likely you tick some of the following boxes too:  

  • CA/CPA Qualified.
  • Experience in a Financial Controller role.
  • Relevant superannuation business experience, including a detailed working knowledge of the SIS Act, Corporations Act and Accounting Standards.
  • Demonstrated experience leading and developing a high performing team. 
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to effectively communicate and negotiate in writing and verbally with various stakeholders.
  • Proven experience in contributing to the review and improvement of the monthly management reporting processes and the associated policies and procedures.
