Team Leader - Insurance and Underwriting

About the role

As a Team Leader – Insurance and Underwriting, you’ll guide a high-performing team in delivering exceptional service and operational excellence. In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing the end-to-end execution of insurance and underwriting administration, ensuring all activities are completed accurately, efficiently, and in alignment with internal service level agreements, fund policy conditions, business rules, and risk/audit requirements.

 

As the Team Leader, you will play a critical role in driving team performance and member satisfaction. You’ll lead by example—setting clear expectations, monitoring progress, and fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement. You’ll be responsible for evaluating individual performance, providing timely coaching and feedback, and implementing development plans that support the growth and capability of each team member. Your leadership will ensure that the team consistently meets its goals and delivers high-quality outcomes that reflect our commitment to excellence.

 

Day to day, you'll:

  • Lead and manage a team of Insurance and Underwriting Officers, ensuring consistent delivery of administration tasks within agreed service standards.
  • Leading the design, development and maintenance of service activities such as maintenance, account merges, complex inquiries and member account adjustments and underwriting service commitments.
  • Monitor and evaluate team performance, identifying opportunities for improvement and implementing targeted coaching and development strategies.
  • Ensure compliance with internal SLAs, fund policy conditions, business rules, and risk/audit requirements.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to resolve issues, improve processes, and enhance member experience.
  • Champion a positive team culture focused on accountability, growth, and service excellence.

About you

  • Demonstrated leadership, people management and coaching experience.
  • Demonstrated understanding and application of the principles involved in change management, leadership, motivation and adult learning principles.
  • A genuine passion for customer service and the ability to inspire and lead others to deliver outstanding customer experiences.
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong relationship management skills, inclusive of an ability to influence and negotiate outcomes of a complex nature.
  • High degree of business acumen, with the ability to deliver within a changing environment and developing strategies.
