Business Manager - Risk & Compliance

About the role

As the Business Manager – Risk & Compliance, you will enable and support the Chief Risk Officer (CRO) and the broader Risk & Compliance Leadership Team (RCLT) to drive Australian Retirement Trust’s risk management vision and initiatives.

 

You will work closely with members of the RCLT to develop, communicate and embed a calendar of activities, engage with key business stakeholders in the management of strategic initiatives and contribute to R&C governance, planning, change and transformation processes. Acting as a key partner, you will be the connector and conduit between employees, senior leaders, executives, and key stakeholders.

 

You will also be responsible for the monthly and annual risk and compliance business planning and administration, the development and implementation of key operational initiatives and projects, communications support and assisting the CRO in ensuring compliance with obligations under the Financial Accountability Regime.

 

 

Day to day, you'll:

  • Act as a strategic partner to the CRO, managing enquiries, communications, and representing the CRO in meetings and decisions.
  • Collaborate with the CRO’s Executive Assistant to manage priorities, schedules, and deliverables.
  • Drive integration, innovation, and continuous improvement across Risk & Compliance and the broader enterprise.
  • Lead planning and tracking of R&C initiatives, performance metrics, and quarterly activity calendars
  • Support governance forums by preparing high-quality submissions and ensuring alignment with strategic priorities.
  • Manage R&C budget submissions and reviews in partnership with Finance.
  • Build strong relationships with key stakeholders to support change management and effective communication.
  • Promote a strong risk culture and ensure compliance with regulatory obligations, including the Financial Accountability Regime.

About you

It goes without saying you'll be a great communicator with top notch interpersonal skills. We'll also expect you to pick up problems and come up with quick, creative ways to solve them. It's quite likely you tick some of the following boxes too:  

  • Tertiary qualification in Accounting, Business Administration, Risk or Compliance or a related field.
  • Demonstrated ability to build trust and influence across all levels of management to drive strategic outcomes across the business.
  • Demonstrated experience in fostering a positive organisational culture to create high performing teams in a dynamic environment.
  • Outstanding written and oral communication skills and proven experience in reporting for use by the CRO, Board, and executive team and industry bodies.
  • Demonstrated skills in external stakeholder management and developing trusted and enduring relationships with executive-level leaders.
  • Ability to identify, understand and respond to emerging or underlying issues in complex situations or problems, bring fresh perspectives and recommend a suitable course of action.
  • A strong ability to engage, manage and influence change and solve complex problems by providing practical guidance, support and recommendations to management and other key stakeholders.
  • Experience in a similar role or operations focused role within a large organisation.
  • Ability to apply solid governance principles in a practical manner.
  • Proven leadership skills in a large, complex organisational setting.
