About the role Australian Retirement Trust is seeking a dynamic and strategic leader to take on the role of General Manager Risk – Investments. Reporting to the Chief Risk Officer, this senior position plays a critical role in shaping and maintaining a strong investment risk culture across the fund. Operating within the second line of defence, you’ll lead the design and execution of investment risk frameworks, ensuring they support sound decision-making and align with ART’s risk appetite. The role involves close collaboration with senior investment leaders to provide independent oversight, challenge assumptions, and enhance risk-adjusted performance. Day to day, you'll: - Lead the strategic development and execution of investment risk frameworks that align with ART’s risk appetite and regulatory standards.
- Provide independent oversight and challenge across all investment risk types, including market, credit, liquidity, counterparty, and operational risks.
- Partner with the Chief Investment Officer and senior investment leaders to support risk-informed decision-making and optimise risk-adjusted returns.
- Deliver expert risk insights and recommendations to the Investment Committee, Board, and senior leadership on portfolio construction and investment strategy.
- Oversee scenario analysis, stress testing, and forward-looking risk assessments to support robust investment governance.
- Ensure effective monitoring and reporting of investment risk exposures, limit breaches, and emerging threats across asset classes and trading operations.
- Maintain compliance with APRA standards and internal mandates, embedding risk practices into business and project lifecycles.
- Foster a strong risk culture and lead a high-performing team of investment risk professionals, driving capability and continuous improvement.
- Act as a key liaison with internal and external stakeholders, including regulators, auditors, and industry bodies, on investment risk matters.
- Champion innovation and strategic change initiatives that enhance risk management practices and support ART’s long-term vision.

- Deep expertise in cybersecurity, cloud technologies, digital platforms, and operational resilience.
- Commercially astute with the ability to balance risk and opportunity to support sustainable member outcomes.
- Skilled in overseeing third-party risk, outsourcing, and service provider arrangements.
- Strategic thinker with the ability to anticipate emerging risks and shape long-term risk strategy.
- Exceptional communicator and influencer, with experience engaging senior stakeholders and governance bodies.
- Proven ability to build, mentor, and lead high-performing teams aligned to organisational purpose and strategy.
- Tertiary qualifications in Business, Risk, IT, or related fields; professional certifications are highly regarded.
