As a Senior Legal Counsel - Investment Governance, you'll be a trusted adviser and business partner in relation to investment matters, providing specialist, solutions-focused legal advice and services. Your primary focus will be ensuring strong legal, regulatory, and governance standards across all investment activities. Day to day, you'll: - Provide targeted legal support for the design and monitoring of legal and regulatory compliance and governance in relation to investments and investments related activities including:
- Ensuring all entities in the Australian Retirement Trust group related to Investments have appropriate licenses (eg AFSL) and is in compliance with their governing documents (eg trust deeds, constitution, IMAs etc).
- CIFIUS, OIO, FIRB, Merger Control and other regulatory approvals and compliance requirements for investments in various jurisdictions.
- Establishment of any new investment entities within the Australian Retirement Trust group.
- Support the Managing Legal Counsels and their teams in implementing new investments (as and when opportunities arise), with consultation with the Managing Legal Counsel, Governance and Sustainable Investments and the Associate General Counsel - Investments Legal.
- Proactively develop additional compliance and other internal policies as required (and amend existing policies as required).
This role is available as a 12-month max-term/ secondment opportunity. About you It goes without saying you'll be a great communicator with top notch interpersonal skills. We'll also expect you to pick up problems and come up with quick, creative ways to solve them. It's quite likely you tick some of the following boxes too: - Tertiary qualification in Law and current unrestricted practicing certificate as a Legal Practitioner in Australia.
- Demonstrated experience in investment structures, licensing and investment regulatory compliance.
- Extensive post admission experience working at a law firm and/or as inhouse legal counsel (asset manager, superannuation fund, or similarly regulated entity).
- Knowledge of the superannuation industry and associated regulatory regime.
- Robust negotiation, drafting, influencing and stakeholder management skills with the ability to work collaboratively across all levels of an organisation.
- Experience in advising and working collaboratively with business teams to deliver time and business critical projects.
