About the role

We’re looking for a passionate Specialist who can take their knowledge in security and data to support the platforms that protect members personal information. As a Data Protection Specialist, you’ll: 

• Supporting the configuration and maintenance of data protection platforms, including Microsoft Purview and Varonis.
• Designing and implementing policies for discovery scanning, classification, labelling, DLP detection, monitoring, reporting, and alerting.
• Executing the eDiscovery process to support responses to cyber incidents, HR investigations, financial crime reviews, and legal proceedings, ensuring compliance with internal policies and regulatory obligations.
• Maintaining DLP controls across endpoints, cloud services, storage platforms, and email systems.
• Monitoring data access patterns and assisting in investigating anomalies, insider threats, and policy violations.
• Enforcing controls and supporting the detection of breaches of ART’s data governance framework.
• Collaborating with the Data Protection Lead and other stakeholders to integrate data protection controls into ART’s broader data governance strategy.
• Participating in awareness and training initiatives to promote a culture of data protection, and staying informed on emerging threats, technologies, and regulatory changes.

About you

It goes without saying you'll be a great communicator with top notch interpersonal skills. We'll also expect you to pick up problems and come up with quick, creative ways to solve them. It's quite likely you tick some of the following boxes too:  

• Technical, hands-on experience configuring and supporting data protection platforms such as Microsoft Purview and Varonis.
• Understanding of data discovery, classification, labelling, and DLP controls across enterprise environments.
• Familiarity with eDiscovery tools and digital evidence handling processes.
• Ability to monitor and investigate data access anomalies and policy violations.
• Strong collaboration skills across technical and security teams.
• Commitment to promoting data protection awareness and compliance.
• Knowledge of data governance frameworks and privacy legislation (e.g., Australian Privacy Act, APRA CPS 234).
• Exposure to cybersecurity or IT incident response processes, experience working in regulated environments or supporting compliance initiatives, and relevant tertiary qualifications or certifications (e.g., Microsoft Certified: Information Protection Administrator).
