About the role

As Conduct Practice Lead, you will lead fair, evidence‑based conduct investigations that support Australian Retirement Trust’s obligations under APRA CPS‑511 Remuneration, ensuring consequence decisions are consistent, well‑reasoned and appropriately applied. You’ll operate in a sensitive environment where a calm problem solving and communication style will help support and build trust with stakeholders at all levels. This role suits someone with a legal background and employee relations or investigation experience, who can take an examination‑style approach to complex matters. You’ll work closely with senior leaders and committees, producing high‑quality reporting while contributing to the continuous improvement of ART’s consequence management frameworks.

Key aspects of the role include:

  • Leading conduct investigations that may be narrow or broad in scope, assessing severity and causes for issues with poor risk outcomes in a fair and consistent manner
  • Developing clear, well‑evidenced findings and recommendations aligned to CPS‑511 requirements
  • Building strong relationships across People & Impact, Risk and the broader business to support complex investigations
  • Navigating sensitive matters with professionalism, empathy and sound judgement, balancing individual, stakeholder and organisational needs
  • Preparing high‑quality written reports and submissions for a range of audiences, including executives and governance committees
  • Translating regulatory and legislative requirements into practical guidance, processes and ways of working
  • Applying inquisitive and analytical thinking, quickly learning context across a range of matters and testing evidence to form robust conclusions
  • Contributing to the development, review and uplift of consequence management policies, frameworks and practices

This is a permanent opportunity based in Brisbane, Sydney, or Melbourne

About you

It goes without saying you'll be a great communicator with top notch interpersonal skills. We'll also expect you to pick up problems and come up with quick, creative ways to solve them. It's quite likely you tick some of the following boxes too:

  • Significant experience conducting workplace conduct, ER, risk or regulatory investigations, with the ability to assess matters fairly, consistently and based on evidence.
  • A law degree or relevant tertiary qualification, with employee relations or investigation experience and the capability to construct, test and defend well‑reasoned arguments (practising certificate not required).
  • Strong understanding of regulated environments, ideally within financial services, and confidence applying regulatory requirements in a practical, proportionate way.
  • A calm, structured and professional communication style, particularly when managing sensitive matters.
  • Confidence engaging and influencing senior and executive‑level stakeholders.
  • Exceptional written communication skills, with the ability to produce clear, high‑quality reports and recommendations for varied audiences.

  • A proactive relationship builder who is comfortable having open, sometimes difficult conversations and supporting a strong speak‑up culture.
  • Strong organisational skills and resilience, enabling effective management of multiple complex matters in a fast‑paced environment.
  • A continuous improvement mindset, with interest in contributing ideas and supporting uplift of frameworks, processes and ways of working.
