About the role

As a Data Governance Specialist within our Data & AI Enablement function, you will play a critical role in shaping, embedding and operationalising ART’s data governance framework. Acting as a trusted partner to delivery teams, product champions and data partners, you will ensure data is governed, compliant, high quality and of strategic value to the organisation.

• Contribute to the development and uplift of ART’s data governance framework, policies, standards and guidelines in line with organisational and regulatory expectations
• Partner closely with data owners, stewards and custodians to ensure they are equipped to carry out their data roles and receive appropriate support on data governance matters
• Develop, document and maintain the operational processes, templates and artefacts that support ART’s data management strategy
• Implement and continuously improve data governance processes across the organisation, ensuring they are pragmatic, scalable and effective
• Provide hands-on guidance and support to delivery teams on data governance, data quality and compliance requirements
• Identify, assess and document data-related risks, including supporting third-party data risk assessments
• Monitor compliance with data standards and governance processes, working collaboratively to drive uplift where required
• Build strong relationships across the data community, enabling effective engagement and ensuring data products deliver genuine strategic value

About you

It goes without saying you'll be a great communicator with top notch interpersonal skills. We'll also expect you to pick up problems and come up with quick, creative ways to solve them. It's quite likely you tick some of the following boxes too:  

• Demonstrated deep expertise in data governance, data management frameworks and best practices
• Proven experience working within APRA‑regulated or similarly regulated industries (financial services experience is strongly preferred)
• Hands‑on experience implementing data governance frameworks, standards, policies and operating models
• Strong understanding of industry frameworks such as DAMA and APRA CPG 235, with the ability to apply them practically
• A collaborative and engaging communicator, able to influence, negotiate and challenge constructively at all levels
• A pragmatic, delivery‑focused approach with the ability to balance governance rigour with business outcomes
• Experience partnering with delivery teams, data partners or product owners to embed governance into day‑to‑day work
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex data concepts into clear, actionable guidance
